I am close to taking my webcomic online but do not know what the optimal format would be. They very are simple comics like Elftor or White Ninja Comics (except some of them may be scanned and edited) and eventhough these small simple comics like those do not take up much room, I will not be able to afford a very large site. What are the pros and cons of acceptable MS Paint formats?

Don't tease me with Transformers references, man. I still remember the the original mini-series, from way back in the day.
If it's full color, then jpegs would probably be the way to go. Don't know if Paint gives many compression options, though. For a black and white comic GIFs or PNGs should be fine, assuming Paint can set a limited pallet. Should be able to set it t grayscale when you scan it. I'm not too familiar with Paint, so consider these suggestions you can try to see what gives you acceptably small file sizes. You might want to try tracking down the Windows version of the GIMP. It's free and has more options to optimize the files. |

First off; Don't save anything in paint into a format other than bmp. Its filters suck. Do your work and save it as a bmp, then compress it with something else (I find paintshop pro's export function is the best)
If you're doing in the style of elftor (limited palette), then png is the way to go. It compresses better than gif. If you're doing a photoshop effect filled comic, then go for jpeg |
