I know how to make the line tool (and many other tools) draw straight lines in increments of 90 degrees, but is there a way to make them constrained to other subdivisions of 90 without drawing a normal line and then doing a Free Transform or something?

I'm not that good in Photoshop, but I know Illustrator and I know in the Options menu you can change how many degrees it'll do. I think the default is every 45 degrees.

Step 1: select the brush, or the pencil, or whatever you want to draw with.
Step 2: Hit Shift and click on the starting point. Step 3: Release the mouse button. Step 4: Click on the ending point. Voila.  If you keep shift pressed, every time you click, you'll have a straight line from the last point you clicked. So if you want to interrupt'em, just release shift. ---Miguel Estrugo

I use PS 7, so this may not be accurate if you are using a lower version.
I couldn't find any way to change the auto-straight from 45-degree angles, but I do know this: When you use the line tool, pay attention to the "Info" box (Window -> Info to turn it on, it should have a check next to it.) It's in the upper-right of the screen and says "Info" on the tab. When you are making the line, the X and Y values in that box will change as you move your mouse around. Pay attention to the one that says A: because that tells you what your current angle is. It's a bit tricky to hit something like "exactly 30 degrees" so it's easier to work if you're zoomed in, as moving the mouse doesn't have quite as much impact. If I were you and you wanted to do several of them, do it on a seperate layer, then copy that layer a bunch of times and move them where you need them. Probably faster than trying to hit the same 30 degrees five times. Miguel's trick works too, but it won't tell you what your exact degree is, and I assume that's what you're wanting to see. |
