Does anyone have any ideas on how to build an online community. Sure, I got an ezboard and set it up >>Here<< an a few of my friend and online aquantances stopped by to say a few things, but now, I'm not even sure that people are hitting the forum button, and they sure aren't staying to talk.

I really don't think you can expect much activity on a message board until you reach a certain (rather large) critical mass of readers. I couldn't tell you what that number is - I'll bet others here could - but in my case, I wouldn't even consider a message board until my regular readership was well into the thousands. (And even then, I have any number of reasons I personally wouldn't want one.)

Post a link to your irc channel, forum, blog, etc in every single freaking newspost until people eventually start clicking

Well, I can't help with the fourms (but like Bman said) you can't expect much at the start. The best way to keep you readers coming back is:
1) don't waste their time, if its not some thing that you would read, don't post it on your site. 2) stay on time (if you can be ahead of scheadule), if you say you are going to post every day of the week, be sure you can do it, because if you don't you are just wasting peoples time. 3) KISS, Keep It Simple Stupid, make it as easy for your reader to come in at any time in your story and understand the whole thing. |
